Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about penile implant surgery in Turkey, Peyronie's disease treatment, medical tourism in Istanbul, and recovery.
How much does penile implant surgery cost in Turkey (all-inclusive)? +
An all-inclusive penile implant package at Andro Expertise, Istanbul, typically ranges from €4,500 to €7,000 depending on the implant system chosen (Coloplast Titan, Boston Scientific AMS 700CX or Rigicon Trium). This price includes the surgery, the implant device, pre-operative tests, 1 night in Biruni University Hospital, 5 nights in a 4/5-star hotel, all airport and hospital transfers, post-operative medications and care kit, and a 6-week remote follow-up consultation. There are no hidden costs.
Who is the best penile implant surgeon in Turkey? +
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zülfü Sertkaya is widely recognised as Turkey and Europe's highest-volume penile implant surgeon, with over 2,500 procedures performed. He is a FEBU-certified urologist, certified implanter for Coloplast, Boston Scientific and Rigicon, and serves as Head of Urology at Biruni University Hospital, Istanbul. He founded Andro Expertise in 2022 as a dedicated centre for andrological surgery.
How long do I need to stay in Istanbul for penile implant surgery? +
The typical stay is 6 days: Day 1 arrival and hotel check-in; Day 2 clinic examination and pre-operative tests; Day 3 surgery at Biruni University Hospital (with 1 night in hospital); Day 4 post-operative review and transfer to hotel; Day 5 recovery at hotel; Day 6 final clinic review and departure. Some patients choose to stay an extra day or two to recover further or explore Istanbul before their flight home.
Is penile implant surgery safe in Turkey? Is the hospital quality good? +
Yes. Biruni University Hospital operates to international accreditation standards, with state-of-the-art laminar flow operating theatres, on-site laboratory and diagnostic services, and rigorous infection control protocols. Dr. Sertkaya's infection rate of below 1% — using the Non-Touch Technique — is exceptional by any international standard and significantly better than published benchmarks from UK and US centres.
What is the Non-Touch Technique and why does it matter? +
The Non-Touch Technique is an advanced surgical protocol in which the penile prosthesis never makes contact with the surgeon's hands or any potentially contaminated surface during implantation. This dramatically reduces the risk of bacterial contamination and prosthetic infection — one of the most serious complications of implant surgery. Dr. Sertkaya employs this technique in every procedure, achieving infection rates consistently below 1% across more than 2,500 operations.
Which penile implant is best — Coloplast Titan or Boston Scientific AMS 700CX? +
Both the Coloplast Titan Touch and Boston Scientific AMS 700CX are world-leading three-piece inflatable prostheses with excellent long-term published data. The Titan Touch offers a hydrophilic coating that absorbs antibiotics and Bioflex cylinders providing excellent girth expansion. The AMS 700CX features the InhibiZone antibiotic coating and the highly regarded TENACIO pump system. The optimal choice depends on your anatomy, lifestyle and personal preferences — Dr. Sertkaya will discuss all options and make a personalised recommendation during your consultation.
When can I resume sexual activity after penile implant surgery? +
Most patients are advised to wait 4–6 weeks before resuming sexual activity. The healing of internal tissue around the cylinders takes approximately 4–6 weeks. During the first few weeks, the penis should not be manipulated or used for sexual activity. At the 4–6 week follow-up consultation (conducted by video for international patients), Dr. Sertkaya will confirm when you are cleared to resume.
Can I fly home after penile implant surgery? +
Yes. Most patients are cleared to fly on Day 6 — 4 days after surgery. For long-haul flights of 10 hours or more, we recommend wearing compression stockings and ensuring adequate hydration. If you have specific concerns about your flight, please discuss this during your consultation and we can adjust the programme accordingly.
Is my privacy protected? Will anyone know why I went to Istanbul? +
Absolutely. Andro Expertise operates with the highest standards of patient confidentiality. All communications, medical records and travel arrangements are handled with complete discretion. Many of our patients travel to Istanbul specifically because of the privacy it affords — medical travel from any country to Turkey for any reason is entirely unremarkable. Your medical records are not shared with any third parties without your explicit consent.
What languages does the team speak? +
Our team provides full support in English, Arabic and Turkish. We regularly treat patients from the UK, USA, Australia, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan and many other countries. International patient coordinators are available 24/7 via WhatsApp throughout the process — from your first enquiry to your post-operative recovery at home.
What happens after I return home? Is there ongoing support? +
After returning home, you remain in contact with your coordinator via WhatsApp for any day-to-day questions. A formal 6-week video follow-up consultation with Dr. Sertkaya is included in your package. For the 3-month check, a video or written consultation is arranged. Dr. Sertkaya's team remains available for any concerns throughout your recovery and beyond.
Does the penile implant affect urination or orgasm? +
The penile prosthesis does not interfere with urination, as it is placed within the erectile tissue (corpora cavernosa), which is anatomically separate from the urethra. Orgasm and ejaculation are not affected by the implant — the device addresses erection only, not sensation, climax or ejaculatory function.
