Male Infertility & Microsurgery Turkey

Advanced microsurgical evaluation and treatment for male factor infertility at Biruni University Hospital, Istanbul.

Male Infertility — Overview

Male factor infertility contributes to approximately 40–50% of all infertility cases. In up to 15% of infertile couples, the male factor is the sole identifiable cause. Despite this, male infertility remains significantly under-investigated and under-treated in many healthcare systems.

Andro Expertise offers comprehensive male fertility assessment and microsurgical treatment at Biruni University Hospital, Istanbul — for both local patients and international couples travelling to Turkey for fertility care.

Comprehensive Male Fertility Assessment

  • Detailed semen analysis (sperm count, motility, morphology, DNA fragmentation)
  • Hormonal blood profile (FSH, LH, testosterone, prolactin, TSH, inhibin B)
  • High-resolution scrotal ultrasound (varicocele, epididymal obstruction, testicular volume)
  • Genetic assessment (Y-chromosome microdeletion, karyotype) where indicated
  • Post-ejaculate urinalysis to exclude retrograde ejaculation

Microsurgical Varicocelectomy

Varicocele (dilation of the testicular venous plexus) is the most common correctable cause of male infertility, found in approximately 35–40% of infertile men. Microsurgical subinguinal varicocelectomy, performed under magnification using an operating microscope, achieves the highest ligation success rate with the lowest complication profile. Clinical pregnancy rates following microsurgical varicocelectomy are reported at 40–70% in published studies.

TESE / Micro-TESE — Sperm Retrieval

For men with azoospermia (no sperm in the ejaculate), surgical sperm retrieval allows sperm to be obtained for use in IVF/ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection). Microdissection TESE (micro-TESE), performed under operating microscope magnification, achieves sperm retrieval rates of 40–60% in men with non-obstructive azoospermia — significantly higher than conventional TESE.

Vasectomy Reversal

Microsurgical vasectomy reversal (vasovasostomy or vasoepididymostomy) can restore natural fertility for men who have previously undergone vasectomy. Success rates depend primarily on the interval since vasectomy — the earlier the reversal, the higher the patency and pregnancy rates. Dr. Sertkaya performs both single-layer and multilayer microdot anastomosis techniques.
